I will miss you all...

I have accepted a full time position teaching K-2 General Music in McFarland.

To the fabulous LLE music students and families
who have touched my life over the past 5 years:
I will never forget the programs we worked on together,
learning on the SMART Board,
playing Silly Staff, and The Chicken Dance!
You've given me so many wonderful memories, and I will miss you all very much!

May you always carry a song in your heart, move to the beat, let your voice be heard,
and have fun with music!

Love,
Mrs. Kellen

Happy Summer!

Happy Summer Levi Leonard families!
Hope you all are enjoying the sun and a more relaxed pace!
My summer has included lots of activities with my family, as well as auditing some courses. I had fun with my daughter at Mrs. Klopp's Grown Up Clay Camp, and am now playing in the pit orchestra for Oregon Straw Hat Players' production "Brigadoon".
I have been doing some fun research finding great apps for iPod, iPhone, and iPad.  I know that many of you have access to these devices, so wanted to share with you!

Music Ed apps for iOS devices:
Note Squish
Flash note Derby
Treble Cat HD1
Rhythm Cat
Music Theory for Beginners
Melody Melody

Hope you can check out some of these!  :)  Websites to explore as well...

Simply Fun!

The first grade African music unit is such a fun one to teach! What really struck me this year, (and I talked about this with the kids)...With all the toys and games they enjoy, it was wonderful to notice how much fun they were able to have with simple things like a rock, shaker eggs, and a circle of friends!

Ms. Avery Kansteiner, Levi Leonard's Guidance Counselor, does African Drumming as a hobby! What a special treat it was to have her share it with some of the first grade classes!

Summer Resources for Music Kids

My Music Class Websites page on my website is a great resource for "rainy day" music activities for kids this summer!
If you are at all interested in purchasing software for your child, I recommend  The Groovy Music Series by Sibelius and Harmonic Vision's Music Ace. I have found the best prices on Amazon.com

Freddie the Frog

First Graders have Enjoyed Freddie the Frog books and games. They are really interested in the coloring sheets that can be downloaded and printed from the website!
Here is the link
Freddie and Friends

It is also available on my Music Class Websites page on my school website...this collection of websites is a great resource for students and good "rainy day" activities during the summer!

First Graders will be wrapping up the year with an African music unit and completion of Sibelius' Groovy Jungle.
I have enjoyed them so much this year!  :)
